Are There Any Truly Terrible '77 Shows? |
Purely for funsies, anyone know of a truly awful 1977
concert? I mean, it was a great year and all, but pointing
out a few misses might help restore perspective to this
overly-lionized year (even though it's very much a favorite
of mine, too).

They were out of time a lot in the fall.

There aren't any particular shows I can think of, but anytime they do a Disco beat to "Mexicali Blues" or "Me And My Uncle," I cringe. That even continues into '78...

Is it just me, or did they play Estimated Prophet at every concert in '77? I can't find one without it.

I NO... its rediculous, i like estimated and everything, but its repetition on a show to show basis is pretty much the reason I cant listen to too many 77 shows back to back. I find myself enjoying one of those incredible 77 second sets , full of >s, and then BAM, ANOTHER FREAKIN ESTIMATED PROPHET. The jam out of it is usually pretty cool, they used it to segue into all sorts of other stuff. but i rarely want to listen to the song itself.

Yes, plenty. Use the advanced search. Collection: GD, description "does not contain" Estimated Prophet, and date range 77-1-1 to 77-12-31.

I'll 2nd that. Estimated is often one of the high points of a good '77 show...

Estimated was consistently great through 78.

Yeah, Estimated is great - it was purely a curiosity, as I've never known them to perform a song so often in concert (except maybe for a few first-set songs).

Re: Are There Any '77 shows where they didn't play Estimated Prophet? |
Try Dancin in Summer of 76. Almost every show but it sure is a good song. I'm with the others about Estimated. Problem was it didn't start developing until the Fall of '77. All the Spring versions sound the same.
9/28 was not a bad show, just a little laid back.
There are no bad shows in 76 or 77. Just aren't.
